RE-ELECT REP DAVID ALCOS
RE-ELECT REP DAVID ALCOS
As the Representative of District 41 from Ewa Beach to Ko Olina, I had the privilege to share a day with the Principals of Campbell/Kapolei area and Sean Tajima - Complex Area Superintendent, discussing Ewa Beach Elementary's goals and best practices that have worked for them. Another topic that we touched on was the Capital Improvement Projects requests from each school and discussed the complex priorities with them which Sean Tajima initiated a Few months ago. Our main focus is to allocate funds toward existing State funded facilities and entities. With our community experiencing significant growth, it is essential to support our elementary through high school students with the necessary materials and infrastructure.
These funds will greatly enhance the learning environment and provide our students with the resources they need to succeed. Our dedicated team is committed to advocating for the
allocation of these funds, and we are determined to make a positive impact in our community in 2024.
The 25 th Infantry Division turned the tables on Representative Alcos who is usually the individual
presenting certificates to productive citizens for their above and beyond efforts towards community wellness. On February 16, 2023, Representative Alcos along with Mitchell Tynanes -Ewa Neighborhood Board Chairman and Augie Tulba – Councilmember District 9 was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for their service in their communities. Representative Alcos'
efforts started about 3 decades ago coaching youth football, co-founding a youth football league, and continued into James Campbell High School. Community beautification, kupuna support, keiki support, and just about anything of community need was a huge part of his life. Thank You to Major Francisco "Borgy" Bonglo II a graduate of Kapolei High School for noticing
and nominating our Representative from District 41!
Last week, Representative Alcos' Townhall meeting was a special tribute to the unsung heroes of our Department of Education. This is the organization that we trust our Keiki with daily. Heroes considered included administrators, teachers, cafeteria staff, counselors, Junior Police Officers (JPO), and facility maintenance. These individuals were selected by their principal for going above and beyond their expected responsibilities. As the proud representative of District 41,
Representative Alcos was honored to recognize them for their dedication in shaping the future of
our community.
Representative Alcos had the honor of attending a site visit to James Campbell High School with
Principal John Henry, Department of Education, and other community leaders. It was a wonderful opportunity to receive updates on the school's progress and to engage with the community at the high school level. As alumni of James Campbell High School, he and his wife are proud to see the dedication and commitment of the school's leadership in ensuring a quality
education for all students.
Representative Alcos was approached by a group of students from James Campbell High School who are part of a non-profit educational program called Center for Tomorrow's Leaders. Lead by Mr. Taira, this program affords the opportunity for students to communicate with accomplished or seasoned adults in a professional setting. They were advocating for traffic and
pedestrian safety around their high school and was allowed to ask Representative Alcos about his
thoughts, analysis, and future action that he will be taking regarding the subject discussed. As
juniors in high school, they excelled in their project that was assigned to them. Representative
Alcos has all the faith and hope that this group of students will be successful and productive
citizens in life.
I had the honor of having the Department of Education in my office to discuss the "Bullying" concerns that have been brought to my attention in District 41. It was a crucial conversation where we delved into the current situations in our education system and how we can work together to address and combat bullying effectively. I was amazed by the programs, policies, and actions they've taken to this point and looking forward to more discussions in the future. From left to right: Yvonne Humble – Director of Student Services, Annie Kalama – Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, and Ken Kakesako – Director of Planning and Evaluation.
